The Greenita

As many of you know, I’m a big fan of weed shakes. I’ve been making them over at the Mo Betta Green Farmer’s Markets this summer in the Five Points. I must admit, though, that green shakes aren’t for everyone. And that’s why we have green juice!

The Greenita is a greens-infused Granita. Juice whatever greens you have on hand, along with some tasty fruits and veggies of your choice. Go for a 50/50 mixture to start, then adjust to suit your taste. Combine the juice with ice and enjoy.

Here’s the original recipe – check out the pics on Facebook – and share the recipe with your friends!

Juice the following ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of organic kale, chard, spinach, beet greens, collards or other hardy greens
  • 2 cups organic green or red grapes
  • 2-3 organic peaches
  • 1 orange

Then blend with the following ingredients:

  • 1 Tablespoon honey (optional)
  • 2 – 3 cups ice

You can also blend additional fruit, flavors and herbs at this step as well. Try adding 1/2 cup cherries and a few leaves of fresh basil and mint from the garden for a Cherry Basil Mint Greenita.

*note: I recommend buying these ingredients organic or natural because they are on the Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen list
